A $15 Value?Despite having big budgets, appraisal districts don't pay enough attention to individual properties. Mass appraisal computer models and data frequently contain errors. A potential opportunity exists for property owners to appeal because of these errors. A relatively small number of homeowners are appealing their property valuation to the Ector County Appraisal District, with approximately 23% of the accounts valued by the Ector County Appraisal District being protested. As a matter of fact, based on the Texas Comptroller data for 2021, 100% of multifamily owners and 43% of commercial owners were able to appeal their property taxes by disputing their valuation. Meanwhile, only 3% of homeowners appealed their property taxes by disputing their valuations.
