Bexar County Appraisal District 2022 Houses Property Tax Protest Summary
Out of $157 billion in total property value, $42 billion in property tax protests were filed with the Bexar Appraisal District (CAD) in 2022 by property owners. 21% of houses were protested based on Bexar CAD noticed value. Compared to owners of ordinary houses, owners of more costly homes are more inclined to protest. Protests are much more common among owners of utilities, commercial space, and apartments. Based on value, the owners of 100% of commercial, 5% of multifamily, and 100% of utilities appealed. For one reason only—it works—a sizable percentage of utility, business, and multifamily owners routinely file an appeal each year.
Owners who file an annual property tax appeal often save between 80 and 93% of their property taxes. Every year, the appraisal district releases a new figure that remains unaltered unless you appeal. You can effectively fight it on your own, and you have a high chance of success if you do it every year. In my 39 years of experience, I have found that few property owners would file an annual appeal on their own. If you are not protesting on your own, let O’Connor handle it for you. There aren't any up-front expenses. No fixed costs. Never make a payment until your property taxes are lowered that year.
