 Pat O'Connor, MAI is president of O'Connor & Associates, a tax reduction firm headquartered in Houston, Texas employing more than 100 people. The Houston Business Journal recognized the firm as one of the fastest growing Houston private companies on its Houston Fast 100 list in 2007 and 2008.
Pat has been actively involved in appraising commercial real estate properties, property tax reduction and federal tax reduction. In addition, his market research details trends for apartments, office, retail and industrial buildings in all Texas’ major markets, much of which reflects historical trends for the past 15 years. He also reports transactions in his weekly Commercial Deed Report, usually within 10 days of the sale.
Pat’s credentials include holding the distinguished MAI appraisal designation and developing the nation’s largest property tax appeal firm. The firm is a strong advocate of taxpayers and has led the effort to reform the Texas property tax appeal process. This year the firm filed about 164,000 protests of assessed value on behalf of its clients. For the 2009 tax year, the firm lowered assessed value by more than $3.6 billion dollars, resulting in tax savings of around $93 million (not including exemption data).
Pat hosts a weekly radio show on 740 AM KTRH which provides solutions for reducing property taxes. He’s also the author of Cut Your Texas Property Taxes, a book that empowers individuals to challenge the appraisal district to reduce assessed property value.
